Q: What does this even do?
A: Discord will soon be limiting the ability to link externally to file uploads, making them expire within 24 hours of being copied. Pluralkit uses these external links for your avatars, and is currently still working on what to do about this change. This saves all of your current avatars so they can be uploaded somewhere safer once the change is rolled out.
Q: How do I upload my system info to this?
A: Send pk;export
to the PluralKit bot, and save the file it sends you, then upload it here.
Q: Can I have a list of "safer image hosts?"
A: I cannot guarantee the safety of any particular image host, but there's a few options as of the time of this FAQ being written (2023-09-28), like filegarden, imgbb, imgbox, squidge images (registration required), or put.re.
As well, there's always the option of using some web hosting/dedicated file hosting stuff for this purpose, like Github Pages or Backblaze B2.
Q: What's with the name options?
A: This selects the filenames of the avatars when they're saved. The member name is the name you used when initially doing pk;m new
, and the 5 character member ID is a shorter way of addressing them. Both work when used with pk;m.
Q: What's pk;m
?
A: Shorthoof for pk;member
.
Q: Does this work with Tupperbox?
A: It should, but I don't actually know how Tupperbox works, so no guarantees.
Q: Does this archive from sites outside of Discord?
A: If you're lucky, but unfortunately not every site allows itself to be accessed by other sites! I can't do anything about that, sorry.
